As the Cribs arrived in Scotland for T in the Park, the sun came out and began to dry up the quagmire that the festival site had turned into during the weekend.
The lads revealed that they had just come from Oxegen festival in Ireland which had “the worst possible festival weather” – just as well they weren’t playing the Saturday at T.
The Cribs have played T in the Park before and Ross Jarman said: “Scottish crowds are some of the ‘funnest’ crowds to play.” A sentiment echoed by most artists throughout the weekend.
With 4 records under their belt, how does the band decide which tracks to play at festivals?
Ryan Jarman said: “We’ll go for a proper festival set. We always do what’s going to be suitable for the crowd.”
Legendary Smiths and Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr, who joined The Cribs in 2008, added: “I love it. We always have a good time at festivals.”
The Cribs have enjoyed continued success since hitting the music scene in 2001. They have worked with some major names in the industry, amongst them Franz Ferdinand front man Alex Kapranos, and Orange Juice’s Edwyn Collins.
Ryan said: “We have had a good Scottish connection. People like Edwyn – he was a good influence on us at the time.
“Alex is still a really good friend. We hang out with Alex a lot. There’s definitely a lot of interesting Scottish, musical characters.”
Sadly, Ryan missed girlfriend Kate Nash who played T on Saturday but he said he was looking forward to catching Ash.
Just don’t mention Jay-Z, or Beyonce, or Goldfrapp to The Cribs. The guys clearly aren’t fans.
With that, Johnny Marr revealed they will have a new single out soon – possibly. Ryan Jarman was not so keen to divulge.
The band drew an impressive crowd at T even though they were playing at the same time as Scottish favourites Biffy Clyro. Q Magazine was certainly right when it deemed The Cribs ‘The biggest cult band in the UK.’
