Alex Gardner is a Scottish singer / songwriter who is currently taking the UK by storm with his catchy pop tracks and melodic ballads.
stv.tv caught up with the star at T in the Park to get his thoughts on his ever increasing fanbase and hear what it’s like to have supported some of the biggest stars in the planet.
He chatted to stv.tv reporter Laura Boyd about supporting Whitney Houston, Leona Lewis and his forthcoming tour with JLS.
The talented youngster took the bold step of leaving his Edinburgh home at 16 to head for the big lights of London – a move that has clearly paid off as Alex is certainly on the road to stardom.
How does he handle being compared to fellow Scots singer / songwriter Paolo Nutini? Having toured with the hugely successful Paisley lad he said: “I don’t think the world needs a new Paolo Nutini, the original one’s great. I am just going to be Alex Gardner.”
Clearly flattered by the Paolo comparison though, how does he feel being compared to another massively popular star – Robert Pattinson of the Twilight franchise?
With similar looks, style and height to R-Pattz, many have been quick to point out the resemblance between Alex and the actor.
He simply smiled and confirmed he is a fan of the movies adding: “Of course I am – I have to be if I look like him!”
Alex has now played the T-Break stage at T in the Park for two years running and the way things are looking, he will most definitely be back next year – but surely an NME or Main Stage slot beckons.
