stv.tv caught up with Craig and Charlie Reid aka The Proclaimers and chatted with them about taking their legendary spot on the main stage at T in the Park – a set that is always a festival highlight for T fans of all ages.
The guys said: “It’s always a privilege to come here because it’s in Scotland and because of the crowd.
“The people make it, the people make any festival but this part of Kinross always attracts the rain but people get into it anyway.”
The Proclaimers have been making iconic music for over 20 years now so what is the secret behind their success? Craig said: “I don’t know. We just jeep writing our songs and playing and I think playing live if there’s been any secret, playing live is it.”
After playing for so many years, it would be easy to become complacent and bored with playing the classics like 500 Milesm, but this is far from the case for Craig and Charlie.
They said: “You’ve got to have the enthusiasm cause people see through it if you don’t .”
The charming lads also discussed their future plans saying “were going to take a holiday for this year and keep writing and keep rehearsing and see where it takes us.”
Good news for fans across the globe is that we definitely haven’t heard the last from The Proclaimers. They revealed: “There will be a new album next year or the year after.”
The band have become national treasures in Scotland but they don’t let success go to their heads.
They laughed off the title of ‘Scottish icon’s’ saying they are just “lucky enough to still be successful.”
So what do they make of Scotland other national treasure, Susan Boyle, who’s also making a name for herself across the pond?
Charlie revealed: “I think she’s done really well. Su-Bo’s certainly a lot bigger than we are. We’re playing clubs in America and she’s playing big venues. Good luck to her. She’s got a good voice and she finally got a few breaks so good luck to her.”
After the recent news that Ms. Boyle is looking for someone to duet with this Christmas, could the Reid brothers be up for the job? They joked: “It would be a trio! Our voices are not of the quality of Miss Boyle’s but we wish her all the best and every success. She deserves every minute of it.”
The Proclaimers are a true credit to Scotland and the music industry. They have produced songs that have become the symbol for Scots throughout the world yet they remain extremely down to earth and humble. The stv.tv team proclaim, ‘we’re fans of the Proclaimers!’
