Being part of the stv.tv entertainment team means that we get to meet lots of exciting celebs – most lovely, some not to lovely, but I can honestly say that Mr Maxi Jazz from Faithless has been one of the nicest and most genuine people I have met so far.
Maxi was a total gentleman and a joy to chat too as he is clearly one of the masters in the dance music field – the fact that he is 53 and still as popular as ever is testament to that.
Playing the Main Stage at T in the Park just ahead of Muse, Maxi revealed that he loves Scotland and would in fact like to move here.
He said: “If your winters weren’t so bad I would have been living her a long time ago.”
As the sun came out at T, the Faithless rapper did offer his top tip for guaranteeing good weather. He advised: “If it’s raining and you don’t want it to be, you simply have to put your sunglasses on with the intention of the rain stopping not just ‘ah I’ll put my sunnies on.’” I'll be trying this one tomorrow...
So how do Scottish fans compare to English? Maxi, ever the professional, said: “I’m not going to knock the English crowds at all because they are so warm but the Scottish crowds are affectionate and raucous at the same time.”
As well as having an incredible career in music, Maxi also loves motor racing and is a regular on the circuit at Knockhill.
He certainly shows no signs of slowing down even though he is in his fifties and Jazz revealed how he intends to carry on making music. He said: “For me it’s like a privilege and a blessing and it doesn’t matter to me whether we have 85000 people in the audience or 85 in a room. To get the opportunity to feel something, to turn it into something like music then play it to somebody and see them react? Amazing.”
But will that music making be with Faithless? Maxi told stv.tv: “For at least 9 or ten months after the tour I won’t want to hear the word Faithless again for at least a year, then after that we’ll have a little chinwag and see what we have to say or whether we just say ‘that was nice’ and stop.
“It might have stopped a long time ago to be honest with you had it not been for the fans.”
After the incredible reaction they got at T tonight, it doesn’t seem the fans will be letting Faithless disappear anytime soon.
