Uthers health worsens. Gundleus attacks Avalon, with dreadful ramifications. Nimue and Derfel try to escape along with a group of other survivors. All appears lost, when a surprising figure reappears.

Arthur is forced to negotiate with hostile forces in the pursuit of peace. As Nimue struggles with the trauma of her attack, she strikes a pact with Derfel to be there for one another, whilst planning her revenge.


Episode 3 of 10

Derfel and Owain leave to collect taxes, but are diverted and end up raiding a mine. Nimue feels betrayed by Merlin. His leadership style in doubt, Arthur visits his childhood home with Morgan, and makes a surprising discovery.

Episode 4 of 10 

Nimue takes her fate into her own hands. Tristan arrives at Caer Cadarn demanding retribution for the raid at the mine. Under Gorfydds watchful eye, Arthur has no other option than to intervene and faces a terrible decision.

Arthur suggests that as a show of faith, he marry Gorfydds daughter, Ceinwyn. He and Derfel travel to Powys along with Gundleus and Gorfydd. Arthur meets a fascinating and beguiling figure, before he and Ceinwyn are betrothed.

An enticing array of activities take place in the run-up to Arthur and Ceinwyns wedding, and Arthur finds himself welcomed into Gorfydds world and discovers a more cultured side to him.

Episode 7 of 10

Arthur believes that Bedwin can negotiate peace with Gorfydd, who is determined to have revenge. Sansum builds a church near the Avalon site, horrifying Nimue. She curses him, and the Christian mob accuse Nimue of poisoning them.

Episode 8 of 10

Ceinwyn reveals that Gorfydd is allying with the Saxons. Derfel learns the Christians cause of death, but Arthur reveals he is banished Nimue. Struggling with the weight of leadership, Arthur is in his darkest hour.


Episode 9 of 10

Derfel ventures into the Isle of the Dead to find Nimue, and is horrified by what he encounters. After a perilous journey towards Saxon territory, Arthur faces their leader, and must decide what he is prepared to sacrifice.
