A US 'vampire' has been arrested for threatening a teenager posing as a 'vampire slayer'.

Jonathon 'The Impaler' Sharkey, 44, is currently in a Minnesota jail for harassing the teenage girl via email.

Sharkey - who has previously run for governor of Minnesota and president of the US in the name of the Vampyres, Witches and Pagans party - struck up a relationship with a 16-year-old when she posted a message of support on his website.

When the girl tried to end the relationship he refused to let her and made threatening phone calls and sent e-mails and letters to her and her parents.

When a local police sergeant called Sharkey, he said he was a 2008 presidential candidate and a vampire "who needs to drink human blood for strength," and referred to the girl as his wife and princess.
