Johnny Depp has signed up to star in 'Black Mass' and 'Transcendence'.
The 49-year-old actor will play legendary gangster James 'Whitey' Bulger in Barry Levinson's 'Black Mass' and many thought he wouldn't be able to take on the lead role in Wally Pfister's 'Transcendence' because of a schedule clash.
However, according to Deadline, he will appear in both, beginning work on Pfister's sci-fi thriller in April and then moving over to Levinson's project once production has ended.
Although there are no official plot details for 'Transcendence' don't actually exist, it is believed the story will focus around a group of scientists studying the theory of the technological singularity and the creation of a computer that can think for itself.
The script was written by Jack Paglen and actresses including Emily Blunt, Rebecca Hall, and Rooney Mara have been rumoured for roles as well.
Meanwhile, 'Black Mass' tells the true story of how Bulger dominated the crime scene in Boston during the 80s and Jez Butterworth is currently writing a new draft of the screenplay, which was originally adapted by Mark Mallouk from the book 'Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob'.
