Nick Hurran to direct 50th anniversary Doctor Who episode

Nick Hurran will direct the 'Doctor Who' 50th anniversary special.

The TV director has been chosen to helm the hotly-anticipated episode after the success of his popular series seven episode of the long-running BBC One sci-fi show, 'Asylum Of The Daleks', as well as the tragic mid-season finale, 'The Angels Take Manhattan'.

Nick confirmed the news himself during an appearance at the Glasgow Film Festival yesterday (17.02.13).

Fans have responded positively to the appointment, branding it ''fantastic news'' on Twitter.

Another lover of the sci-fi show posted: ''Nick Hurran is the director for the 50th Anniversary Special. Makes sense. He's proved to be very talented. (sic)''

The script will be penned by Steven Moffat and filming for the special 3D episode kicks off in April this year. Nick is also known for season six adventures 'The Girl Who Waited' and 'The God Complex'.

Steven recently said he was excited about the possibilities the new 3D format would bring to the anniversary special, which will star Matt Smith as the titular Time Lord.

Making a reference to the Doctor's TARDIS spacecraft - which is a lot larger inside compared to its exterior - Steven said: ''It's about time. Technology has finally caught up with 'Doctor Who' and your television is now bigger on the inside. A whole new dimension of adventure for the Doctor to explore.''

'Doctor Who' will return to TV screens on March 30.
