Ben Stiller visits home every weekend when he is working.
The 47-year-old actor - who has children Ella Olivia, 10, and Quinlin, seven, with wife Christine Taylor - thinks it is important to be with his family as much as possible, but won't take his children out of school so they can accompany him to his film sets.
He said: ''When I am away, I try to come home every weekend. I don't want to pull the kids out of school to come to the set. I try to be home as much as possible. We know as a family that we need to be together as much as we possibly can.''
Ben throws himself into his work, but the 'Zoolander' star has learned to find a ''balance'' between his career and family.
Asked if he is a workaholic, he said: ''I figured out how to manage it better. I try to find a balance in life, see what works for me and what doesn't.''
And though the star reprises his role as Alex the lion in animated adventure 'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted', he says his children don't spend too much time worrying about his work in the cartoon capers.
He said: ''My kids aren't that impressed in terms of me being in these films. They just enjoy the movies. I selfishly like to make movies that I can share with my kids.''
'Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted' is out on Blu-ray Triple Play, Blu-ray 3D and DVD from DreamWorks on February 11.
