Kat Moon will confront her demons on 'EastEnders'.
The once beloved barmaid - played by Jessie Wallace - has had her reputation ''damaged'' by a series of incriminating storylines including her affair with Walford villain Derek Branning (Jamie Foreman) and the baby swap scandal with husband Alfie Moon (Shane Richie), so new executive producer Lorraine Newman is determined to restore viewers' faith in the character by allowing her to move on from her past.
She said: ''The cycle that she and Alfie got into became painful to watch. We adore Alfie and should be allowed to enjoy that. But, more importantly, I think Kat should be allowed to move on too from her history of sexual abuse.
''We'll take Kat on a journey where she's forced to confront her demons and hopefully come out the other side. Her past will always remain with her but I hope that it stops her from making the same mistakes.''
Lorraine also hinted how the Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) and Sharon Rickman (Letitia Dean) drama would be resolved on the BBC One soap after Phil's shock proposal and vow to win her back from boyfriend Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).
She added to the Daily Star newspaper: ''I think Phil makes Sharon feel safe. It's the same for him - she knows and understands his family. The real danger for them is that we know that Sharon is addicted to medication and Phil has a history as an addict, so potentially it's a very, very dangerous combination.''
