Julian Fellowes to make house documentary

Julian Fellowes is creating a new factual programme about great British houses.

The award-winning writer of 'Downton Abbey' is to channel his love for grand buildings in two hour-long episodes for ITV titled 'Julian Fellowes' Historical Houses'.

Julian will explore the history, upstairs and downstairs, of his favourite homes in the country, taking viewers on a journey into the stories behind the previous occupants lives and unearthing century-old secrets.

Julian said: ''The great houses of Britain have for centuries been the guardians of much of our history, not just of the families who built and lived in them, but of the people who worked there, of the local area, of all of us.

''Where they have remained in the hands of the original families, the archives are rich in their stories and I have been on the trail of just a few of these.''

Two of the houses that Julian will visit are Burghley House in Lincolnshire and Goodwood House in Sussex.

Diana Howie, Factual Commissioning Editor ITV, is ''thrilled'' that Julian has agreed to lead this project.

She said: ''Julian Fellowes is a master of his craft and we're thrilled he will be bringing his exceptional knowledge and character to a factual format on ITV1.''

Executive Producer Alan Brown added: ''There could not be anyone better than Lord Fellowes to make these films, he brings history to life in the most extraordinary and engaging way. Inevitably, he finds that fact is often even stranger than fiction.''
