Kate Middleton and her brother-in-law Prince Harry made some of the Olympic champions’ day yesterday, as the Royals turned up at Team GB House in Stratford to congratulate them on their efforts.

The Duchess of Cambridge was without her beloved husband Prince William, but Harry and Kate still seemed to be have a blast as they made their way round the group of athletes, chatting about the Games and the races they had taken part in.

Speaking to rowing gold medallists Andy Triggs Hodge, Kat Copeland and Sophie Hosking, as well as Jonny Brownlee who won a bronze medal in the triathlon earlier this week, the Royal pair praised them on their success at the London Games.

And one of the athletes was rather taken with Duchess Kate in particular. Rower Kat told the Mirror: "I've wanted to meet her, all through the Games I've seen her at other sports and I keep missing her. She's gorgeous in real life.

"They were both really nice. Kate had obviously watched all of our races, which was pretty amazing.

"Both of them seem really enthusiastic and excited, they know a lot and they've obviously watched it all.

"She was really knowledgeable about our sport and we talked about the cycling and she talked to Brownlee about the triathlon so it's pretty incredible that they have been watching everything and they really know what's going on."

Kate and Harry have always been close, but the in-laws have become more like good friends since the Royal wedding in April 2011.

Since marrying Prince William, Duchess Kate has become fully embroiled in the ways of Royal life, attending charity events, opening hospitals and centres, and even making her first solo speech as a working member of the Royal Family.

And she and Harry are often spotted sharing a joke with one another, at important occasions such as the Diamond Jubilee central weekend celebrations in June.

As official Olympic ambassadors, Duchess Kate, Prince Harry and Prince William have been present throughout the sporting competitions during the last few weeks.

The Royals will also be attending the much-anticipated Olympics Closing Ceremony this Sunday, with performance from the likes of the Spice Girls and Jessie J on the bill.

Other acts including Take That and One Direction are also tipped to perform at the ceremony, which has been titled A Symphony of British Music, celebrating the country’s success and prominence in the music industry throughout the last 50 years.
