One Direction set to perform at Olympics closing ceremony

Just when you thought organisers wouldn’t be able to top the magnificent Olympic opening ceremony, One Direction have been booked to perform at the closing of the London 2012 Games – ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yes girls, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are set to prove they really are the golden boys of pop as they take to the stage in two weeks' time for the glitzy closing ceremony.

There have been rumours that 1D would somehow be involved in the Games for months now, and when the lads weren’t part of Danny Boyle’s opening extravaganza, fans were left disappointed. But turn that frown upside down 1D lovers because according to The Mirror, the boys will get their moment of Olympic glory after all.

In June, a source told the Daily Star Sunday: "The main theme of the Olympic closing ceremony will be celebrating the best of British music, so it's only right that One Direction are opening the show.

"They are the UK's biggest music export at the moment behind Adele, who is also rumoured to be involved in some way.

"It's all top secret and the boys aren't allowed to talk about it but they are thrilled."

The 1D boys’ BFF Ed Sheeran is believed to be limbering up his vocal chords for a performance, as are the Spice Girls, The Who, and, according to reports, Take That.

Our favourite boy band and man band in one show? How do we get tickets?

While Harry and the lads may not be able to talk about their direct involvement in the Games, they have been throwing themselves into the Olympic spirit.

Niall Horan has been Tweeting his support for all the Irish competitors, while Zayn Malik said: “Thought the Olympic opening ceremony yesterday was amazing, what do you guys think? X”

We think we’re looking forward to the closing ceremony even more, Zayn.
