Louis Tomlinson and his girlfriend Eleanor Calder are definitely not engaged, despite various stories circulating that the young couple were set to take the plunge.

Pretty politics student Eleanor, 22, caused speculation after she featured in The Mirror’s 3am column in a photo which clearly showed her wearing a band on her ring finger, while waiting for a flight in Nice airport with Louis, 20.

The rumour-mill went into overdrive that the pair were set to say "I do" in the very first 1D wedding – and we all got excited in the STV offices, planning out the outfits, the songs, the stag and hen-dos…

But it seems that Eleanor and Louis aren’t quite ready to take the plunge just yet, with PR firm Hackford Jones clearing up the rumour.

Tweeting the paper’s column, Simon Jones from the public relations firm wrote: "@3am Louis and Eleanor are not engaged."

Eleanor also confirmed the ring was not a promise of marriage, telling fans on Twitter: “Haha noo It's just a flower ring that I bought from a market! Xx.”

It’s not hard to see where the rumours came from; the cute couple had, after all, just finished a romantic mini-break in Paris, the city of love.

And celebs often use the ‘ring finger trick’ to make a clear statement about their relationships – usually removing their wedding bands to send out a message that their relationship is over.

Stars’ engagements are also usually confirmed after they are seen wearing a sparkler on their left hand too, with Angelina Jolie’s betrothal to Brad Pitt being announced after she was seen sporting a huge diamond.

Meanwhile it's not just Louis out of One Direction who is hitting the headlines over his relationship status; flirty Harry Styles is being linked to yet another stunning woman, this time Made In Chelsea star Caggie Dunlop.

He's been linked to various other lovelies in the past, including Caroline Flack, Emily Atack and Lily Halpern.

And yesterday it emerged exactly how the 18-year-old is managing to woo all these gorgeous gals – he’s been taking tips from the ‘dating bible’ The Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists.

Harry’s X Factor buddy Olly Murs is said to have got the teen reading the book, which gives tips to men on transform themselves from “AFC” (Average Frustrated Chump) to “PUG” (Pickup Guru).

The 11-point guide shares advice which is “guaranteed to change the lives of men with steps including ‘select the target’, ‘isolate the target’ and ‘extract target to seduction location’.

It certainly seems to be working for ladies’ man Harry anyway!
