Cheryl Cole’s niece tried out for this year’s X Factor yesterday, but failed to secure a place in the next round of the competition.
Melissa Armstrong sang her aunt’s hit Promise This for her audition piece, performing in front of Tulisa Contostavlos, Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and newly confirmed fourth judge Nicole Scherzinger.
But the 21-year-old failed to impress the judges enough to land a spot in the next round of the competition.
Despite failing to make it through the audition, Melissa still got decent feedback from the panellists.
Tulisa told the young hopeful: "You have a nice, sweet voice,” at yesterday’s Newcastle auditions.
And Nicole advised the singer to follow in Cheryl’s footsteps, telling her: "I could see you doing country music or being in a girl band."
The Geordie singer used to be a judge on the UK X Factor as well as X Factor USA, before she was given the axe from the stateside show.
Meanwhile Cheryl is proving she’s at the top of her game professionally again. The singer’s latest single Call My Name shot straight to the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart at the weekend. She also recently announced a UK tour taking place this October.
And today the star Tweeted a photo of huge crowds of fans who have turned out in Newcastle for a chance to meet the singer at an album signing at HMV tonight. Looks like she's one in demand lady!
