Stars from around the globe jetted into Scotland last night to celebrate the great and the good of the fashion industry, at the glittering Scottish Fashion Awards in Glasgow.
This year’s ceremony was staged at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza hotel, and was attended by stars of stage and screen, singers, supermodels, designers and media personalities.
It was a truly glitzy - and sometimes surreal - experience, as the attendees dazzled (and dazed) in an array of eye-catching outfits.
Scottish celebrities including Doctor Who actress Karen Gillan wowed on the red carpet, alongside up-and-coming singer Tallia Storm, 13, who supported Elton John in Falkirk on Sunday night in front of 17,000 people.
Stunning Alexa Chung hosted the event, which was also attended by the likes of Made In Chelsea’s Millie Mackintosh, looking elegant in a black SuperTrash gown, New York stylist and personality Derek Warburton, who sported a striking pink turban, Amy Winehouse’s goddaughter Dionne Bromfield in a Holly Fulton creation, and Dolce & Gabbana supermodel David Gandy, who was championing the high street in a Marks & Spencer suit.
Speaking to stv.tv’s Gill Harvey, David said: “I think the UK has great style sense at the end of the day and we should be out there competing with Milan and Paris and New York, and this is what I’m trying to push at the moment, supporting British fashion.”
Stylist and TV presenter Brix Smith-Start added: “I think Scottish fashion is so important to British fashion in general, it's just such a hot pot of activity that comes out of Scotland.”
Stylist Nick Ede, who accompanied presenter Lizzie Cundy - who was rocking a striking Basler gown – continued: “We’ve got people like Holly Fulton who is a brilliant designer, and people like Louise Gray, and there’s some fantastic designs from Scotland, so it’s great to see people wearing them.”
And Sugabases singer Jade Ewen added: “Usually all the fashion events are in London so it’s good to come up here and see what you guys have to offer.”
Former Netherlands and Tottenham footballer Edgar Davids was also spotted in the crowds, alongside his fiancée Olcay Gulden, the fashion designer and founder of the SuperTrash label.
The Scottish Fashion Awards were founded by Tessa Hartmann, who will be awarded with an honorary doctorate from Glasgow Caledonian University later this month for her achievements in promoting Scotland's contribution to the fashion industry at home and internationally.
Speaking about the success of last night's event, she said: “We do like to punch above our weight and I just can’t believe that so many people have flown in from around the world to attend.”
Big winners at the 2012 awards included Christopher Kane, who picked up the crown for Scottish Fashion Designer of the Year, Karen Gillan who was awarded Scottish Fashion Icon, and Tali Lennox, daughter of singer Annie Lennox, who was presented with the Scottish Model of the Year gong.
Supermodel and face of Chanel Stella Tennant was also inducted into the Scottish Hall of Fame 2012.
