Britney Spears calls Simon Cowell ‘adorable’ as she joins The X Factor US

Pop stars Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have talked about becoming judges on The X Factor in the US – and revealed that it didn't take convincing from Simon Cowell to sign up.

Talking at a press conference in New York, Britney even joked in New York on Monday that Cowell was "adorable".

The 30-year-old Grammy winner also said that she liked the idea of mentoring aspiring singers.

Britney explained: "Well, really just being able to be there to inspire the other you know contestants.

“They're so young and they're trying to fulfill their dreams. It's just a whole beautiful concept, so being able to be a part of this is really cool."

Meanwhile Disney teen star Demi said all it took was a phone call from the British TV personality and music executive.

The pair are replacing Paul Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger, and joining LA Reid and Simon, who were also judges on the first season of the show.

Despite creating plenty of headlines upon its launch – and soon after ditching Cheryl Cole from the judging line-up – Simon judged last year’s The X Factor in the US a ratings disappointment, and vowed to shake things up for this year’s season.

The show kicks off its first round of auditions for season two in Austin, Texas on May 24 and 25.
