For many girls, dating a member of One Direction would be a dream come true, but, in reality, life can be far from rosy when your linked to one of the heartthrobs – just ask Emma Ostilly.
The US model enjoyed a night out with Harry in New Zealand at the weekend, but when photos of the pair kissing appeared in the press, she quickly became the target of jealous 1D fans.
The 18-year-old blonde is thought to have met the singer when she appeared in the video for One Direction single Gotta Be You.
They stayed in touch and when Harry was in Auckland, where Emma now lives, it seemed the perfect opportunity for a catch up.
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “They really seemed to have a connection and only had eyes for each other...
“They were enjoying themselves, laughing and joking together.
“They seemed very happy and relaxed and you could tell they have a history together. The pictures show they are still close.”
Now Ms. Ostilly has had to shut down her Twitter account to avoid abuse from some of Harry’s obsessed fans.
Some 1D lovers even went so far as to set up Facebook groups called 'Anti Emma Ostilly' and 'I hate Emma Ostilly'.
Sadly, Emma’s not the first girl linked with the group to suffer abuse from jealous fans.
When Harry dated Xtra Factor presenter Caroline Flack last year, the 32-year-old hit back at the disgusting comments and threats she received on social networking sites, Tweeting: “Hi one direction fans! To clarify. I'm close friends with harry.. He's one of the nicest people I know...I don't deserve death threats. :) x”
Receptionist Anna Crotti was put off dating Zayn Malik when fans targeted her after she met the singer during a radio interview in Australia earlier this month.
She told The Sun: “By the end of the day, it got a bit too scary. Random girls were abusing me on Facebook.
“Girls were calling the radio station and giving me s**t. Mothers even called me in tears, demanding to know if I knew where One Direction were because their daughters wanted to meet them.
“I didn’t even want to walk home. It was so intense.
“I messaged Zayn and said, ‘Maybe it’s not a good idea we meet up.’ It was just a bit too full on.”
