Louie Spence dazzles and delights at Glasgow’s Girls Day Out 2012

Louie Spence delighted the crowds at Girls Day Out today as he officially opened Girls Day Out in Glasgow.

The popular fashion, beauty and lifestyle event was back for another year after previous successes, with Dancing On Ice judge Louie on hand to kick off the glamorous weekend in true showbiz style.

Posing with the eye-catching Man Candy Butlers, Louie was in his element as he cut the pink ribbon and let the waiting crowds in.

Event organisers are expecting around 15,000 women to descend on the SECC this weekend for the show, which runs from Friday April 20 until Sunday April 22.

While there, ladies can chat to exhibitors about their products, indulge in beauty and hair treatments, and take in some of the fashion, cookery and fitness workshops and demonstrations.

stv.tv spoke to some of this year’s exhibitors about what visitors can expect to see over the three-day event.

Stephanie Wade from Tennent’s Training Academy, which runs leisure and hospitality courses in everything from cocktail making to Italian cookery, explained a bit more about what is on offer.

“We teach professional chefs, people in the industry, local people wanting to get into hospitality. People come from all over Scotland to train with us. At night we’re open to the general public so you might want to come and learn how to do cocktail and cupcake making or you might want to bring your friends and have a hen or a stag party.”

Carolyn Johnston from Cancer Research is at Girls Day Out this weekend to encourage ladies to sign up for this year’s Race For Life. “We’re here to promote Race For Life, not only in Glasgow but across Scotland and the rest of the country,” Carolyn explained.

“We’re looking for 15,000 women to come together on June 3 on Glasgow Green to really support our event. It’s all about sisterhood and hopefully together we’ll beat cancer.”

Linda Kellow from Reeta Fashions, which specialises in bridal wear, was also at the show, sharing tips with brides-to-be on the correct styles for their big day.

“This weekend we’ll be showing brides different styles of dress, different shapes, different looks and try and help them. A lot of girls come in thinking they know what they want and then walk away with something completely different,” she explained.

Susan Archibald from Truly Scrumptious Designer Cakes, is also at Girls Day Out this weekend, helping people to devises their dream cakes – from Mad Hatter birthday cakes to stunning, towering wedding cakes. Kids can also join in with fun demonstrations, getting the chance to create their very own cupcake.

And Samantha Woodcroft from Wicked Lips explained one of the more unusual – but extremely popular – products that’s on show during  this weekend’s events.

“Wicked Lips is a temporary lip tattoo that you cut to size , wear all day or all night, it’s an alternative to lipstick, and everybody’s wearing them. They’ve become very popular since Katy Perry and Jessie J have been wearing them,” she explained.
