Brits winner Emeli Sande was distressed by TV bosses’ decision to stop her from making a speech. The singer’s anger comes as after Adele got an apology for being cut off.
Emeli, sitting with her parents who had travelled from Aberdeen, had hoped to make a speech thanking those who had helped her.
Instead the live broadcast cut to Jessie J who was asked to offer advice to Emeli.
A friend told the Daily Record: “I don’t think it was deliberate. They dropped the ball on Emeli. She received very poor treatment.
“She has a No1 album and they’re asking Jessie J what advice she has got for her.
“Emeli’s family were there and this was the moment when she should have been celebrating and having a nice time.”
Adele had expressed her anger at the way her acceptance speech was cut off in order for Blur to perform live.
Later TV bosses had apologised to her.
Emeli’s album Our Version Of Events is at number one and is the fastest selling album of the year so far.
There has been criticism of the way James Cordon interviewed Kylie Minogue and Jessie J, neither of whom had won anything, but ignored Emeli.
Her friend added: “She wanted to say thanks for the honour and for the support she has received on the way.
“She is disappointed that she didn’t get the opportunity to do that.”
But a source at the Brits said: “Because there was more music than ever before, everything got pushed back. The Brits love Emeli. They really support her and think she’s fantastic.”
