Charity fall: Lorraine is recovering
Lorraine Kelly has told how her charity horse ride ended up in an emergency operation. The presenter said: “I got a huge shock.”~
Presenter Lorraine had been taking part in a charity event run by Sarah Brown when the accident happened.
She told The Sun: “It was only my second time on a horse and I was attempting a modest jump when I fell off.
"It was part of a fund-raising 'gold challenge' to raise money for charity by taking part in an Olympic sport.”
Plucky Lorraine had volunteered to do the pentathlon against former Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s wife Sarah for her PiggyBankKids charity.
She should have been participating in fencing, swimming, running and shooting as well as riding.
The popular presenter added: “As I landed on the ground, the horse trampled on me and stamped on my inner thigh. There was a lot of blood and a deep wound."
Lorraine was taken to hospital where she was given a general anaesthetic so doctors could clean and stitch her wound.
She is expected to leave hospital in the next day or so, but will be on crutches for a couple of weeks.
She said: “The staff here have been incredible. It's the NHS at its finest.
"I did get a real shock, a real fright, but it was an accident and these things happen.
"I was so disappointed I couldn't take part in the challenge as the charity is such a brilliant one.”
Helen Fospero was called in to stand in for Lorraine on her morning show.
