Kate Middleton’s first Valentine’s Day as a married woman will be one to remember, with two very successful solo royal engagements – one to The Brink, an alcohol-free bar run by Action on Addiction, and one to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital – under her belt.

Met with huge cheers and applause, Duchess Kate’s highly praised visit was quite an achievement for the new royal, who has only recently started carrying out engagements on her own.

But while the stunning 30-year-old didn’t get to spend Valentine’s Day with her beloved William during their first year of marriage, because of the prince's visit to the Falkland Islands with the RAF, the couple still made sure romance didn’t go out the window...

The duchess revealed yesterday that romantic William had sent her a Valentine’s Card and a lovely bouquet of flowers, to show his stunning wife that he was thinking of her, even though they were almost 8, 000 miles apart. Awww!

It wasn’t the only Valentine’s card Kate got though; 10-year-old Ethan Harris, who Kate met at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) during her visit to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, hand-made a card for the duchess.

The heart-shaped red card was lovingly created by the youngster, and featured painted spots, and a photo of Ethan’s his brother Carson Hartley on the front.  Ethan’s family have used the RMHC since Carson, who will be two on Sunday, was born premature. He has complex medical needs, resulting from a heart problem.
Cute Ethan even penned a poem for the duchess, which read: "You're smiley like the sun, you're bright like a star, you're light when it's dark and I love your spark." A delighted Kate told the youngster: "Thank you, that's lovely."

Looks like Prince William might have a rival for Kate’s affections!
