Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s marriage is about to become nothing more than a distant memory, after the couple finalised details of their divorce yesterday (February 8).

Papers were filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court yesterday, and court records show that Superior Court Judge Marc Marmaro, Brand and Perry all signed the judgment.

Katy – who has now returned to maiden name, Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson – seemed upbeat considering the circumstances, signing the papers with her smiley face signature.

According to celebrity site TMZ, the pop star and the comedian hashed out a “'comprehensive written settlement” to end their 14-month marriage, and are thought to have agreed on all financial issues, with Katy keeping all of the money she made in that time.

As the couple hadn’t signed a pre-nuptial agreement, comedian Russell – who earned significantly less than his wife in that period – could have legally taken half of Katy’s earnings.

The One That Got Away singer is believed to have a fortune worth at least $40 million.

Katy Perry’s papers also state that the star asked the court not be involved in awarding spousal support to Brand, the Daily Mail reports.

In paperwork filed by the comedian, Russell ticked a box saying that both parties "agree this cause may be decided as an uncontested matter" and that they have waived their rights to a trial.

The exact terms of the couple’s break-up have been kept confidential.

California law requires that couples wait at least six months after filing before their divorce can be finalised, so the divorce will only become official on July 14.

THE END OF THE ROAD:

Finalising the details of the divorce signals the end of a marriage that lasted just 14 months, following a whirlwind relationship. Katy and Russell fell for each other after meeting at the MTV Music Awards in 2009.

They married in a romantic ceremony in India in October 2010. After the wedding were often seen together in public, hugging and kissing for the cameras, as well as outrageously flirting via Twitter.

But as the months passed the couple were seen together less and less and it soon became clear that all was not well in the marriage.

News emerged on December 30 2011 that Russell had flied for divorce from Katy, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason.
