More than 7,000 people have competed in a doughnut race in the US.

The competitors - who raised $120,000 for the North Carolina Children's Hospital - took part in the eighth annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in North Carolina, which saw them try to down 12 doughnuts while running for two-and-a-half miles.

The police revealed there were no major incidents during the race, but some participants were unable to hold the calorific treats down while running on a full stomach.
