Andrea McLean has split from second husband, Steve Toms.

The Loose Women star broke the news in a revealing interview with The Mirror today (23.01.12), where she spoke of her “heartbreak” over the decision.

Following a mixed response to the fact she told her story in the paper, the 42 year old has now taken to Twitter to thank fans for their support and explain why she went to press with the news.

She Tweeted: “Hello everyone. Thank you so much for all your messages of support, I really appreciate them. Xx”

The presenter then added: “I know some people are unhappy that I have gone public about my marriage breakdown, but I haven't done this lightly I had to tell the truth.

Andrea later wrote: “It really helps to know that others understand and know what I'm going. You've been amazing x”

“It's been a v difficult day, but your messages have really helped me. Thank you.”

The devastated Scots presenter revealed she split with Steve over the festive period, telling the paper: “We held it together over Christmas for the kids but then on Boxing Day I took them to stay with my parents – and that was the end.

“I’m still in shock. When I hear myself talking about "my first marriage breakdown" then "this time round," the words are like a stab in the heart. Because I simply can’t believe I’m in this position again. People think I’m Snow White... the most boring person in the world! I’ve only ever slept with two men and I married them both.”

The couple have a daughter, Amy, 5, together and Andrea has a son, Finlay, 10, with first husband Nick Green.

She added: “I feel I have let my children down. They don’t deserve this.

“I just wanted to give them what I had – a happy, loving home with a mum and dad who adored each other. And all I’ve ever wanted is to be one half of a couple. But now that’s all gone. I’m heartbroken.”

Andrea split from Nick Green in 2003, after meeting builder Steve on home makeover show Our House.

They married in August 2009.

Andrea’s autobiography, Confessions of a Good Girl, is published next Thursday.
