Kate Middleton turned heads at the red carpet premiere of  First World War epic War Horse last night, as the Duchess of Cambridge marked the last day of her twenties.

Wearing a floor-length Alice Temperley gown with a floral lace pattern, the duchess wore her shiny brunette locks styled in loose curls, with smoky eye makeup and blushed cheeks giving her a polished finish.

Kate looked every inch the princess as she stood beside her husband of nine months, Prince William, as the couple attended the premiere, which was held in London's Leicester Square in aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.

The royals rubbed shoulders with celebrities - as well as 600 serving and ex-serving military personnel and their families and beneficiaries of military charities - and the director of War Horse, Steven Spielberg, said it was a “prestigious honour” to have the couple in attendance.

The premiere was a chance for popular Kate and Wills to enjoy a night on the town together, after spending the last few weeks celebrating the festive season with other members of the Royal Family.

The night out fell the evening before Kate turned 30, with the duchess marking her landmark birthday today (January 9).

It’s not known how she plans to spend her big birthday; some reports have surfaced that Kate was to attend an 80s-themed party organised by her sister Pippa and brother-in-law Prince Harry.

However other sources claimed the duchess is in fact planning a “low key” celebration with close family and friends, before Prince William leaves for RAF duty.

No matter how she plans to spend her big day, Kate will mark her birthday in no way like she’s ever done before.

After marrying Prince William in April, Kate became an official royal, with the last 12 months a whirlwind of activity that has seen her carry out her first official engagement, royal tour, mark her first Christmas with the Royal Family and announce her Royal Patronages.

According to insiders, the generous duchess has asked friends and family not to buy her presents for her big 3-0, instead donate to charity. But Prince William is believed to have commissioned an oil portrait to mark his new wife’s first year as a royal, while the Queen is  believed to be planning to give Kate a tiara from her collection.

Happy Birthday Duchess Kate!
