Kate Middleton dazzled at her first royal solo engagement, but it is not her stunning dress or glittering personality that has hit the headlines.
The Duchess opted for a ‘half up, half down’ hairdo, which revealed a three inch scar, close to her hairline.
To put a quick end to rumours regarding what the scar could be, a spokesman at St James’s Palace confirmed: “The scar related to a childhood operation.”
Keen to keep the matter private, senior royal sources told the Daily Mail it had been “a very serious operation”, but refused to comment any further.
Prince William also has a scar on his head, as a result of an injury from a golf club.
Kate shone at the charity dinner in aid of In Kind Direct, which was held at Clarence House.
She took on the role of host after her father-in-law, The Price of Wales, had to go to Riyadh, following the death of the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “We were delighted that the Duchess was able to step in at such short notice after our founder was unexpectedly called away.
“The Duchess hosted a very special evening with absolute professionalism and charm.”
