Blake Fielder-Civil is distraught after learning that his ex-wife Amy Winehouse was found dead in her house in Camden on Saturday afternoon.
The 29 year was removed from his prison cell so officers could break the tragic news.
According to The Sun, he said: "I'm beyond inconsolable ... my tears won't dry."
The couple had a turbulent relationship, fuelled by drink and drugs.
They married on May 18 2007 and officially divorced in August 28 2009.
Fielder-Civil, who is currently serving 32 months for burglary and a firearm offence, is said to have collapsed as he cried: "I will never ever again feel the love I felt for her.
"Everybody who knew me and knew Amy knew the depth of our love. I can't believe she's dead."
Sarah Aspin, who is currently dating Blake Fielder-Civil and is the mother of his child, told how he was in a terrible state when she briefly visited him last night.
"He is devastated and shattered. He just can't take it in that she's dead and he'll never see her again,” she told The Sun.
"Blake is the father of our son. But I saw him and Amy together and I know they were really in love and they were soulmates.
"She always loved him and he always loved her - but it was just never going to work.
"Basically they couldn't live with each other and they could not live without each other. It is hard for me knowing he still loved her, but I do understand his feelings."
According to the Daily Star Sunday, Fielder-Civil’s mother, Georgette, is terrified that her son won’t cope. “He won't make it without her,” she said, terrified his behaviour will spiral out of control.
