Prince William and Kate Middleton made their relationship official today, April 29, with a ceremony inside stunning Westminster Abbey.
The couple became husband and wife in front of 1,900 guests in a ceremony which lasted just over one hour, and was attended by high ranking Royals and celebrity guests including Sir Elton John and David and Victoria Beckham.
Kate, who will now become officially known as Catherine, and has been given the title of the Duchess of Cambridge, as Prince William’s title changed to Duke of Cambridge.
The happy couple will now travel to Buckingham Palace where they will enjoy a champagne reception hosted by The Queen, for around 600 guests.
Tonight Prince Charles will host an evening reception for the newly married couple and around 300 of their friends and family. The Royal couple are then expected to leave tomorrow, Saturday April 30, on honeymoon.
Today's wedding ceremony included a reading by Kate’s younger brother, 24-year-old James Middleton, and the hymns included one which was sung at the end of Princess Diana’s funeral, Guide me, O thou great redeemer, as a tribute to Prince William’s late mother.
The bride wore stunning gown of ivory and white satin gazar, with hand-cut English lace and French Chantilly lace, designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, to marry her prince.
This was accompanied by a diamond “halo” tiara, made by Cartier in 1936, which originally belonged to the Queen Mother. This was passed this onto Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday, and The Queen allowed Kate to wear the diamond headpiece on the most important day of her life.
Prince William wore the uniform of the Irish Guards, a striking red outfit fitted by military and civilian tailors Kashket and Partners.
