Justin Bieber shot to fame through YouTube and now it seems Bieber look-alike Dani Shay is set to follow in his footsteps as her parody of YouTube’s most watched video, becomes a sensation in its own right.
The 22-year-old admits she was frustrated with the continual comparison to the teen-bopper but decided to “balance what fate has delivered” and write a parody song to the backing track of Bieber’s YouTube smash Baby.
And now it seems the platform from which the 17-year-old Canadian launched his own career is giving this quirky singer and lyricist her own chance in the spotlight with her video racking up over 400,000 views to date.
“I am stopped everywhere I go because people think I am Justin Bieber,” the singer posted on YouTube. “Before I even knew who he was, no matter what I was wearing, I would be asked for photos, autographs.
“This is my response to that. It expresses my initial confusion, the shock when I finally saw his face, the frustration with people only seeing him when they see me.”
Her song What The Hell begins: “I guess you noticed, I guess you care, about the way I flip my hair, you say it's Bieber, you say it's hot but let me tell you, no it’s not.
“And I was like, what the hell are you talking about…this face has always been mine.”
The lyrics, which mirror Dani’s initial bewilderedness about the popstar continue when she finally turns on her Mac and looks at a picture of the Baby star for the first time.
“This Justin Bieber, oh no this can’t be, you have got to shake me till you wake me from this bad dream, I am going down, down, down and I just cant believe a mini-me has been found.”
The video has generated thousands of comments with one fan saying: “You are great…and remember that you don’t look like Justin, Justin looks like u because you were born before.”
