Selena Gomez reveals all about her “good year” - and Waverly Place return

Selena Gomez may be keeping tabloids busy with her on-again, off-again relationship with Justin Bieber – but whatever their relationship status, she says "it's definitely been a good year”.

The 20-year-old actress and singer recently returned to the set of the Disney Channel show that made her a tween star, Wizards of Waverly Place.

She was filming a reunion episode with original cast members at the same time that rumours were heating up that she had split with Bieber. However, any distractions were left behind for her appearance.

"I walked onto set and I kind of feel like we picked up right where we left off. We weren't even apart that long," Gomez said. "At the same time, I do remember this year has been amazing for me.

“I've gotten to do some great projects that I'm really, really happy about and meet some really great people, and now I’m getting back into music again. So it's definitely been a good year for me."

Gomez had made a strong break from Disney this year by filming the risqué Spring Breakers with Vanessa Hudgens, about four girls who rob a restaurant to pay for a spring break trip. So why'd she return to Waverly Place?

"I did move on," Gomez admitted. "I got to do a couple of projects that were very much for me and that challenged me as an actress.

“But this is my home. I have such an amazing younger fan base that have been with me through everything. So it’s not hard for me to take some time away for just them."

Gomez got a name-check from Nicki Minaj in Bieber's recent single Beauty and A Beat. Minaj rhymed "Bieber" with her first name, pronouncing it "Seh-LEEN-er."

"Kind of awesome. That's kind of amazing," Gomez said. "At first I didn't even understand it. But I thought it was awesome. Nicki is so sweet."

Gomez says she'll be releasing new music in coming months. But while she's enjoyed juggling music and acting jobs, she expects to narrow her focus in the future.

"In my mind I feel that it'll probably just be acting that I stay in for a while. I mean, I'm saying that now obviously. But yeah, I love acting. I love music too. But balancing it right now at the same time is okay," she said.
