Former X Factor star Joe McElderry is to appear in The Who’s rock opera in London’s West End.
The singer is to appear in Tommy at the Prince Edward Theatre for a one-off appearance on November 12.
The musical is written by The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend.
The show was first performed by The Who in 1969 and centres around a child called Tommy who becomes deaf, dumb and blind who then goes on to become a pinball champion. McElderry told What’s On Stage: “I'm very excited to make my West End debut in the iconic rock opera Tommy.
“I have been waiting for a role that would challenge both my acting and singing skills, this has both.
“I am a big fan of The Who and it is incredible that Pete Townshend wrote this piece when he was 21, the same age as me.”
Meanwhile, McElderry recently reached number eight on the UK album chart with Here’s What I Believe, which was released last month.
