Following the official announcement that Scots singing sensation Susan Boyle will sing for the Pope when he comes to Glasgow, the star has spoken out about just how much the day means to her and her family.
The softly spoken singer said: “I first found out I had to sing for the Pope through a friend of the Cardinal and they asked me and I was very happy to do it and very humble. It’s one of my biggest dreams come true at last.”
It’s not just Susan who will represent the Boyle family when the Pope comes to Bellahouston Park on September 16. She revealed: “My family will be there, all my brothers and sisters and my friends so it will be a really good day it will be very special. I’ve got a sister singing as well so I hope I can make them proud of me.”
Susan was extremely close to her mother who sadly died before her beloved daughter found fame on Britain’s Got Talent.
When asked if she thought her mum would be with her on the day, Ms Boyle said: “I think physically she won’t be there, but spiritually she will be .
“She was there in 1982 when he came to Bellahouston at first. She’ll be there and I think she will be proud.”
Devout catholic Susan added: “Faith is the backbone of my life and I can’t do anything without it. It’s very important. Very important.”
You can watch Susan practice her performance for the Pope here and although a great deal of preparation is going into making the day perfect, Susan was keen to stress the joyful element of the mass.
She said: “It’s for everyone to join in and celebrate, it’s a celebration.”
