The X Factor returns to TV screens on August 21 – and one thing is clear, Simon Cowell is in it to win it this year.
The judge said that he is determined to have the winning act out of the Girls, Boys, Overs and Groups categories.
Cheryl Cole, who recently battled malaria, has had the winning act for the last two years in a row, and Simon says he couldn’t bear for her to be victorious again.
Speaking about his ideal category to mentor, Simon said: They each have their appeal – the winning one obviously!” Cowell added: “Cheryl would be absolutely unbearable if she won again.”
Cheryl’s contestant, Joe McElderry won the contest last year. The Geordie teen is currently working on his debut album, which he says will “shock people” with its unique sound.
The previous year Cheryl also mentored Alexandra Burke, who has gone on to launch a successful singing solo career, teaming up with the likes of JLS for performances.
However Simon still takes a keen interest in the acts which have won the show in previous years – even if he didn’t mentor them himself.
Speaking about Joe McElderry’s new album, Simon said: “(I’m) really pleased. He’s grown in confidence. Some of the music is quite different to what you heard form him last year on the show and I’m really happy for him.”
