Coronation Street has lost out to its biggest rival at the annual Inside Soap Awards in London, when EastEnders collected the Best Soap title once again.

The Walford soap collected a total of seven awards on the night, with Corrie collecting only three.

Alex Bain, who plays Simon Barlow in Coronation Street, won the award for Best Young Actor, while his co-star Michelle Keegan won Sexiest Female and Best-Dressed Soap Star.

Before the awards were announced Coronation Street had been leading the way, with 16 nominations compared to 13 for EastEnders.

The Best Actor award went to Hollyoaks' Emmett J Scanlan, who plays Brendan Brady. He also picked up the Best Bad Boy title.

Best Actress was won by Gillian Wright, who plays Jean Slater in EastEnders.

The awards are organised by Inside Soap magazine and have been running since 1996.

Coronation Street has only ever taken the Best Soap title once, in 2007.
