Kat that got the cream: Kate is delighted to be the new entertainment editor
Kate Garraway has said she’s excited about “curling up to chat with the likes of Brad Pitt” in her new role as entertainment editor on Daybreak.
The TV personality will take up her new position when the show launches this August, replacing current programme GMTV.
And Kate, who currently fronts the early morning breakfast show alongside other presenters, said she’s delighted to be moving away from news to work on more light-hearted stories.
Writing in her column for New! magazine, Kate said: “So, now I know my role in ITV1’s new breakfast show, Daybreak. I’ve been given a brand new position – entertainment editor – and I’m absolutely thrilled.
“In the last ten years at GMTV, I’ve debated with three prime ministers, travelled five continents and shared the experiences of people at the heart of a decade of news events.
“But, I must admit, that while I’ve loved debating financial policy with Gordon Brown and wading knee-deep in flood waters and the like on big stories, I am rather relishing the chance in my new job of curling up to chat with the likes of Brad Pitt. Wouldn’t you?”
Yes Kate, we would. Lucky girl! Meanwhile, the TV star revealed that she’ll sorely miss her colleague Ben Shephard, who is leaving GMTV this week. Ben announced his departure after the news of the shake-up was announced, and was yesterday named as a new Sky Sports presenter in a reported £495,000 deal.
“It’s a bittersweet time for me at work at the moment, because while Fiona (Phillips) is back, my friend Ben Shephard is about to leave.” She added: “It’s going to be very emotional saying goodbye.”
