Glam in the City took over George Square at the weekend and showcased all that Glasgow has to offer in terms of style, fashion and fitness. The highlight for most came on Saturday when King / Queen of the catwalk, Gok Wan, hosted the glamorous occasion.
Soaring temperatures didn’t stop thousands of excited women (and one or two men) cramming their way into the marquee to catch a glimpse of ‘aunty Gok’.
The self-confessed fairy-Gok-mother truly sprinkled a touch of magic over the crowd having them eating out of the palm of his perfectly manicured hand, with screams of joy every time he delivered one of his many innuendo laid comments. It’s no wonder he’s the man all woman would let squeeze their bangers without batting an eyelid!
stv.tv reporter Laura Boyd was lucky enough to grab a quick chat backstage with the man himself.
In between choreographing models and picking out outfits he said: “I think Glasgow style is brilliant. I think it’s innovative and often very very glamorous and the times that I have been up here, I’ve noticed people make a bit more of an effort than other cities.”
Gok is no stranger to Glasgow having partied in the city's most glamorous gay bar, The Polo Lounge, on many occasions.
He told Laura: “I’ve been to the polo lounge many times.
“Last time I went out the Scottish football team were playing and there were lots of boys in kilts, so I was very excited. I’m hoping tonight I can have a rerun of that.”
When men in kilts took to the stage, Gok and the girls in the crowd went wild with Mr Wan summing up the feeling in the room by simply saying “Ding Dong!”
He also revealed that he truly loves Scots favourite Lorraine Kelly describing her as his “telly mum.”
Although the majority of the glam crowd was made up of ladies, there was also something for the more fashion conscious young man and one young lad told STV he hoped his perfectly styled outfit would give Gok a run for his money.
Glam in the City made for the perfect day out for fashion loving folks and quite simply confirmed what all girlies know, Gok rocks.
