Sandra Redknapp – the original WAG – says today’s wannabe WAGs are ‘sad’

Sandra – a WAG for more than 40 years – says that today’s WAGs are very different from when she met Harry. And she says she fears for young players now.

Sandra, 63, is mum of Jamie – married to singer Louise – and auntie to Frank Lampard, who is going out with Christine Bleakley.

Speaking to The Mirror she said: “If Frank and Jamie were younger now and out in these clubs, I would be worried about them.

“Sometimes I think some of these girls are really sad. They come looking for men to find publicity, fame and money and they are left depending on their man for everything.

"Footballers often have a bad reputation and I've got Jamie and Frank to think about. It does annoy me.

Will she stick with her Lamps?

What’s a girl to do?

"Girls are just jumping on these young men and it sometimes seems like they don't stand a chance."

She says it’s been easier for Jamie and Frank as their other halves are both established in their own right and not depending on them for everything.

She added: “Christine and Louise don't need Frank or Jamie to make their profiles bigger, they've got that all by themselves and I think that makes their relationships much stronger."
