Susan's having a laugh: Boyle reveals she wants Nellie the Elephant played at her funeral Pic: Rex Features
Susan Boyle is the Scots singing sensation who took the world by storm after impressing with her stunning audition on Britain’s Got Talent last year.
Her charm and angelic voice have seen her become a global hit but the Scottish lady has managed to retain her down to earth sense of humour, saying she wants to have Nellie the Elephant played at her funeral because: "You've got to leave them laughing.”
In an interview with the Radio Times, Susan revealed that her talent almost remained a secret as she once considered giving up singing.
Asked if she ever thought about giving up, Boyle replied: "Yes, when my mother died, because I was too upset to continue. But she would have wanted me to go on and that's something I promised I would do."
It’s unlikely Susan’s mother would have ever imagined the type of success her daughter now enjoys.
Susan spoke of her shock rise to fame saying: "A wee lady from Blackburn, West Lothian, walks on stage with a terrible frock, tights that were probably ripped and her hair in a mess.
"Then, two months later, she's appearing in Harper's Bazaar magazine."
Susan’s life story would make a fantastic film, and this has not gone unnoticed by Hollywood. Demi Moore and Catherine Zeta Jones are amongst the actresses who have been suggested to play the leading lady but Susan would prefer someone much closer to home… Elaine C Smith who plays Mary Nesbitt in Scottish comedy Rab C Nesbitt.
Boyle said: "She's a very talented actress on Scottish television."
Much was made of the fact Susan had never been kissed but the bubbly lady has also revealed this isn’t exactly true.
She added: "My guiltiest pleasure while appearing on television was with Piers Morgan. I did say I'd never been kissed but it's official: Piers was my first!"
