When Scot’s TV star Bill Paterson helped build a humble little council house in Blackburn, little did he know the semi would later be shown on TV screens around the world as the home of a global superstar.
Before turning his hand to acting, Bill was a quantity surveyor and he is sure he was involved in the construction of Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle’s house.
The Law and Order favourite told BBC Alba’s Cathy MacDonald: “ I counted bricks in Broxburn for a living.
“We did a lot of schemes where the houses were like porridge congealed on the outside of them.
“I think SuBo grew up in a house in Blackburn I helped build. I have a feeling I measured the roughcast and plasterwork.”
The talented Scot then joked: “That’s my claim to fame. I wonder if Simon Cowell would be interested in that?”
Susan Boyle regularly returns to the council house she grew up in and still counts the modest house as her main base today.
It has been reported that she will invest some of her £4 million fortune in a larger house, close to where she grew up, but as yet, Ms Boyle seems content to live in her familiar comfortable surroundings without the trappings of glitz and glamour she could so easily afford.
You can see the house that Bill built and many of the sights in Blackburn that are important to Susan in our video tour of the town above.
