Susan Boyle’s performance of I Dreamed a Dream is one of the most viewed clips ever on YouTube.
With the fastest selling debut album of all time, no-one can question the lady from Blackburn’s phenomenal success, but it seems not everybody is a fan of her musical style.
The Wee Man, aka Neil Bratchpiece, also found fame through YouTube after uploading a video of his song, Here You (That’ll Be Right). The hilarious song is a spoof about a day in the life of a Glasgow ned (common person or chav for those outside Scotland).
Speaking to stv.tv in full ned get-up, Wee Man gave us his thoughts on fellow Internet success story, Su-Bo.
He said: “Susan Boyle I think she gets it a bit rough to be honest. I’m no gonnae fall into that stinking cliché of ripping her for her looks. I think people are a bit nasty about her, saying she looks like a singing manatee and that. I’m no gonnae say that, I’m not that type of person.
Sounds ok so far but the comic character had more. He added: “I mean, why do people focus on her looks, have they forgotten that her music’s utterly mince! Has naebody twigged that that might be the worst thing about her?”
Oh dear. So no chance of the two Scottish YouTube stars teaming up then? Wee Man added: “A Su-Bo / Wee Man collaboration? I like people watching me on YouTube but I’m no that desperate for a hit.”
He did round off his outburst with a compliment for Susan… kind of. He said: “Susan Boyle West, Lothian Beauty Queen, I’ve been there!”
Neil’s comic delivery is an accurate representation of the typical Glasgow ned and his portrayal of the character has won him an army of fans with people queuing up to be in his next video.
He is currently working on a new single, set to take the internet by storm and performing as part of the Magners Glasgow Comedy Festival. You can catch The Wee Man ‘Sex, Drugs and Sausage Rolls at the Arches on Sunday 28th March.
