Ashley and Cheryl Cole: the couple in happier times
Cheryl Cole is not going to cite adultery as the reason for her divorce from footballer Ashley Cole, according to reports.
The X Factor star, who booted her wayward hubby out after reports of numerous affairs emerged, is believed to be citing “unreasonable behaviour” as the grounds for divorce instead.
It is believed that Chezza has decided on this because proving Ashley’s infidelity in court would be “more difficult for her to prove”, the Daily Mail has reported. Instead, Cheryl will focus on the sex texts that Ashley allegedly sent, rather than his rumoured flings.
The singer is also said to be aware that Ashley’s lawyers could turn nasty, and try to make Cheryl out to be a less than perfect wife, during the bitter battle - something she is not keen on happening.
A source told the paper: "Cheryl is being told she should not drag this through the courts. Lawyers for Ashley could build a case that she wasn't the perfect wife either.
"She has hardly seen him for months on end due to work, her mother Joan's presence in the house has hardly been conducive to romance, she might occasionally have been demanding and moody."
Both Ashley and Cheryl are thought to be hoping for a quick divorce, after it became clear that their relationship is not going to survive these latest hurdles.
Last Friday night, Ashley is believed to have begged Cheryl to take him back at their Surrey mansion – but the Fight For This Love star, who is battling bronchitis, is said to have made it quite clear that she is in no mood to kiss and make up, and sent him on his way.
