24 year-old actor Danny Young who played Mike Baldwin’s son in Coronation Street has become the latest celeb to be voted off Dancing On Ice.
Danny fell at the final hurdle on tonight’s props themed show when he dropped the hat he’d been given as the required element to incorporate into his routine.
All the skaters had been given a prop each including a microphone stand, a cane, a chair and umbrella. Earlier the judges had commented how the hat was one of the trickiest props and so it proved as Danny fumbled the orange bowler hat during an exchange with partner Frankie Poultney.
He was forced to skate again for survival after being voted into the bottom two of tonight’s live show alongside fellow actor, Hollyoaks’ bad boy Kieron Richardson with a place in the semi final at stake. Danny’s routine had a Charlie Chaplin style silent movie theme tinge to it while Kieron, skating to Queen with his microphone stand prop was meant to evoke rock performer Freddie Mercury.
Commenting on their decisions, first up for the Ice panel judges was Karen Barber who saved Danny despite his mistake . She said: “What a responsibility to get this right. There’s no right and no wrong, you were both great. Slight issue with the hat, still the performance was strong for me.”
Next up was Nicky Slater who said: “It was Freddie against Charlie and Charlie was winning. And Charlie was winning, and then Charlie stumbled. So Freddie wins.”
With the vote tied at 1-1 it was then the turn of Jason Gardiner. Explaining his decision he said: “It’s getting tough. We have two great people up for skate off tonight unfortunately. But it does come down to what you’re required to do. It’s prop week and you messed up your prop. So tonight I save Kieron.” Former Spice Girl Emma Bunton concurred commenting. “I’m gutted for you Danny but you did mess up,” before sending Kieron through to next week’s semi final.
Then with the result a foregone conclusion head judge Robin Cousins cemented Kieron’s win making the vote 4-1
Talking about his time spent on the show after the judges voted to send him home Danny first wished his mother “Happy Mother’s Day girl,” before declaring: “I’ve had the most amazing time. “ He then went on to thank show mentors Torvill and Dean, everybody connected with the show and everyone who voted for him. He also wished the remaining celebs well, singling out EastEnders actress Danniella Westbrook in particular telling her: “ I hope you go all the way.”
He then turned his attentions to partner Frankie Poultney, saying: “Frankie has been absolutely amazing to me. She’s brought me through so much. I’ve had a hard journey at some points and she’s been great.”
Paying tribute to him show mentor Jayne Torvill said working with the young actor had been lots of laughs. She told him: “You’ll have to come in and just keep us laughing for the next couple of weeks.” Four celebs now remain to fight it out on next week's semi final of the show.
