Strictly Come Dancing and Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle is to face a trial for dangerous driving it has been revealed.
The actor, who plays the role of Calvin Valentine on the popular soap, was arrested last November after an incident in Liverpool, when his car allegedly hit freelance photographer Steve Farrell.
He was officially charged with dangerous driving a month after. His case was today referred to the crown court, after he made a brief appearance at Liverpool Magistrates Court.
ITN reported that the actor spoke only to confirm his name, address and his date of birth, and the hearing is said to have lasted just one minute.
He will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on April 21, for a plea and case management hearing, and he has indicated that he plans to deny the charge of dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, following the news that 16 actors are to be cut from Hollyoaks, Ricky has played down the revelations, telling Holysoap: "It's not this mass cull that everyone thinks it is. It's just people are coming to the ends of their contracts. People are choosing to do different things. It just so happens that everyone's contracts are coinciding - they're all ending at the same time."
