Stars from The X Factor put a massive smile on the faces of the sick kids at Glasgow’s Yorkhill Hospital, after making a surprise visit today.

A whole host of contestants from the 2009 series turned up to the hospital, including winner Joe McElderry, Irish twins Jedward aka John and Edward Grimes, Jamie Archer and Stacey Solomon.

The big-hearted performers made the surprise trip after performing in The X Factor Live Tour at the city’s SECC last night.

And they made the patients’ day after taking the time to visit the wards and meet and chat to the young patients, many of whom are seriously ill.

Shona Cardle, who is the chief executive of Yorkhill Children's Foundation, which arranged the visit, said: "We are very grateful to the X Factor finalists for coming to the hospital today.  They created such a buzz of excitement and the children were over the moon to meet some of their idols."

And Jamie Redfern, the general manager of Yorkhill Paediatrics, added: "It is amazing to see the look of delight on the children's faces when they meet stars in person. Today was no exception and the X Factor stars absolutely made the day of many sick children."

The X Factor Live Tour proved to be a huge success when it rocked Glasgow last night. Read stv.tv’s review of the gig.
