White hot: Robert and Kristen are pale and interesting.

The pale and interesting look preferred by stars of the Twilight vampire series is starting a life-saving trend. Fans have started copying Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s white faces.

Experts say that the sexy stars are giving youngsters the confidence to steer clear of the sun beds and to slap on the factor 40.

Eric Jimenz, from Urban Decay Cosmetics, told the Daily Star: “Due to films such as Twilight, people see that pale skin can still be sophisticated, timeless and glamorous."

The departure will come as huge relief to cancer campaigners who are trying to get young people to give up the tanning habit.

Katy Scammell, Cancer Research UK's SunSmart campaign manager, said: "Sunbeds can cause malignant melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer which claimed the lives of more than 170 Scots last year."

Skin cancer is the fastest growing strain of the killer disease in the UK with more than 80,000 cases a year. Meanwhile, Robert has just confirmed that he and Kristen are a couple, ending months of speculation.
