Susan Boyle: likened to a virus
Outspoken broadcaster Piers Morgan has slammed Elaine Paige for saying that Susan Boyle is like a ‘virus’.
Paige made the comments in an interview with the Daily Mail, to try to liken how fast SuBo’s overnight success has spread around the globe, following her stint on Britain’s Got Talent.
But many fans of Susan’s were outraged when they heard the words used by the singer. Paige later tried to clarify exactly what she had meant by the remarks, before complaining that she had in fact been misquoted by the paper.
And it looks like Paige has gotten under the skin of Piers - a judge on BGT – causing the former newspaper editor to call her “jealous” and “mean-spirited”.
Writing in a column for the Daily Mail, Piers said: “Elaine Paige has come out with some extraordinarily bitchy remarks about Susan Boyle, saying she's a 'virus' that she 'doesn't feel any pride for'.
"I, of course, presented the TV special at Christmas in which Susan sang a duet with Ms Paige, and got twice the ovation that Susan's idol received."
He added: "This, coupled with the fact that Susan has sold ten million albums and become a global superstar in a way Ms Paige never came close to achieving, may explain her pathetically jealous and mean-spirited hissy fit."
