Tears for fears: kids, not Katie, made Pete break down in tears
Aussie singer Peter Andre has spoken for the first time about why he broke down live on TV. Pete was being interviewed live on Sky TV’s Afternoon Live programme by reporter Kay Burley when the emotional scenes occurred.
The singer broke down in tears live on air during an interview with reporter Kate Burley after being quizzed as to whether he’d contemplated the possibility that his ex-wife’s new hubby Alex Reid would want to adopt his children.
The interview took place the same day that news broke that the Mysterious Girl singer’s ex wife, glamour model Katie Price, had married her cagefighter lover Alex in a quickie ceremony in Las Vegas..
But Pete says news of the wedding had nothing to do with the emotional scenes that saw him choke back tears and cut the interview short, and led to calls for Burley to be sacked for ‘bullying’ the singer.
The Sky TV reporter wrote on her official blog that she was "mortified" for upsetting Peter during the interview.
Writing in his new! magazine column, Pete- father of Junior, four, and Princess, two, and stepfather to Harvey, seven, Price's son by footballer Dwight Yorke- said: “"I want to say thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support after my appearance on Sky News.
“Many people jumped to the wrong conclusion and thought I was crying because Kate has married Alex Reid, but nothing could be further from the truth.
"I was crying because after showing me some footage of Dwight Yorke saying how disrespectful it was of me to want to adopt Harvey, Kay asked me how I'd feel if Alex wanted to adopt my children. I really wasn't expecting her to go down this route and I admit it completely threw me.
"My kids are my life and the thought of someone taking them away from me is my worst nightmare. She really hit a raw nerve and I just lost my composure. As I said on the show, I would die for my kids and if I had it my way, I'd be with them 24/7.
"As for Harvey I shouldn't have to defend how much I love that child."
He added: "The whole interview left me feeling very down and afterwards I just went straight home to be with the kids."
In an interview with the Daily Star Pete also admitted he’d be spending Valentine’s Day alone. He said: “I’ve had some lovely cards from fans at some of my signings but I’ve got no intention of calling anyone at the moment.
“The only person I will be sending a Valentine’s card to this year is my beautiful little daughter Princess.”
