The incident, which has sparked concern over security surrounding the footballer happened as Beckham was in the middle of an interview with an American TV network in the street outside a restaurant in Milan..
Italian TV star Elena Di Ciocci who presents popular show Le Lene (The Hyenas) made a lunge for the star wearing yellow marigolds in an attempt to see how he ‘measured up’ after being dropped as an underwear model by fashion firm Giorgio Armani in favour of former Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo.
During the advertising campaign for Armani it was rumoured the star was subject to a bit of airbrushing to beef up his package.
Di Ciocci told Le lene viewers: 'Off the pitch we have seen fascinating photographs of David Beckham in his underpants and seemingly very well endowed and even his wife says that he is well equipped and calls him Golden Balls.
''Well the image may have slipped slightly as he has been replaced in the Armani campaign by a younger footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, but we wanted to find out if he was as well endowed well endowed as the pictures suggest or if they were touched
The programme then cut away to show Beckham being interviewed outside in the street with Ms Di Ciocci, rubber glove at the ready prepared to put his manhood to the test.
As she made her lunge towards his testicles, a shocked Beckham pulled back and was then hastily ushered away by bodyguards.
When she was led away Ms Ciocci shouted out: 'I touched it but it's small. David you have conned us all. What did you use cotton wool ? It's all a trick.”
Insiders at the show said the stunt was just a bit of fun and a source close to Beckham later said the star treated it as such.
But the fact the TV presenter was able to get so close to the England star who hopes to be named in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad has raised serious questions about the adequacy of his security. AC Milan said they were aware of the incident and had spoken to the star but had no comment to make
Ironcially Le Iene is shown on Italia Uno, a TV station owned by AC Milan president and Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
