I’m A Celebrity: George Hamilton explains his reasons for quitting

70-year old Hollywood smoothie George Hamilton has explained his reasons for becoming the third star to walk out of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here.

The former Dynasty star had had only five days left in the camp. and was one of the favourites to win the reality TV show.

But any chance of George being crowned King of the Jungle were dashed when he decided to quit.

Speaking live on tonight’s show the star was his usual charming, self deprecating, joking self as he told hosts Ant and Dec why he decided to quit.

Asked how it felt to be out after watching a montage of his highlights during his time spent on the show, he said: “It’s surreal. The whole thing is surreal. What I’m really amazed about is that my hair is standing straight up.

“I didn’t want to look bad. But I guess it’s Viagra. Believe me I’ll be using it!”

So why did he go so close to the end?

“ I thought when I got in here it was going to be a lot of infighting, “ he told the duo. “But we bonded together so fast and I saw Stuart [Manning] go one-to-one with Joe [Bugner, during a trial to see who would remain in camp and who would leave] and I thought the last thing I want to do is go one-to-one with Stuart.

“I have such respect for these people that I thought ‘why don’t you leave while you’re on a high.’ What a wonderful experience I’ve had.

“Joe said to me “It’s a win or lose situation in life.” And I thought yeah, in a ring. But here we didn’t see it that way.

He added “We also took care of the weakest person…which happened to be me!” he laughed. “As much as I like to win because I’m competitive, I didn’t want to see any of them lose, and I thought Ok I’m going to step back. Sometimes by losing you win.”

Quizzed about his relationship with Queen of Clean Kim, George had Ant and Dec in stitches as he described what it was like to live with Kim.

“It was who got to bed first. She snored and if she got to bed first she snored and I couldn’t sleep. And if I got to bed first she’d go ‘George!” and I’d say “Yes what?’ and shed’ say, ‘You’re snoring’ and then for hours I’d have to listen to her snoring. And so for next two hours I’d have to listen to her snoring.”

He also backtracked on comparing Kim’s snoring to the sound of a water buffalo.

“I didn’t mean it. It was more like a wart hog,”  he quipped. “ I love the woman but there is only so long you can put up with sleep deprivation.”

He also said the night he decided he was going was the first night he got a full night’s sleep and realised he was doing what he wanted to do.

Asked who he wanted to win he went for celebrity chef Gino.

The 70-year-old actor is the third celebrity to leave the show of their own will following the departures of dancer Damilla Dallerup from exhaustion and Katie Price’s decision to quit
